CATHOLICISM – An Epic Presentation of the Faith

If you've been reading this blog for any length of time, you're undoubtedly familiar with Fr. Robert Barron. He's one of my biggest personal heroes and one of the Church's greatest teachers, and he's been gifted with all the right tools--he's brilliant, articulate, witty, cultured, and he understands how to explain the Catholic faith.

(Which, by the way, means that having him contribute to my book was like Michael Jordan shooting hoops in my driveway.)

For the last five years, Fr. Barron has focused his energies on the CATHOLICISM project, an epic 10-part film series revealing the riches and texture of Catholicism. The project uses art, architecture, history, poetry, music, literature, philosophy, and personal stories all to reveal the beauty of the Church.

From what I've seen already, it's mind-blowingly good. I think it will stand as the most ambitious, evocative presentation of the Faith our generation has seen. And I think it will pierce the hearts of many people who consider Catholicism to be a dry, bland, dead thing.

In just a few short weeks, the full CATHOLICISM series will be available on DVD, and a month from now it will be beamed to millions of homes through PBS affiliates across the country.

There is also an accompanying book, Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith (Doubleday). I just finished an advanced copy which I'll be reviewing here in the next week or so.

But for now, watch the new trailer below. After you've lifted your jaw from the floor, pre-order the DVD set and the book at www.CatholicismSeries.com.

Also check out the interview I did with Fr. Barron a while back. You'll especially like his great book recommendations at the end.

This looks thrilling and inspiring. It is so beautiful. This really is so greatly needed. A showing of this series, one episode per week, is already planned in a parish near me and I greatly look forward to seeing it.

Elizabeth: I totally agree. We're *definitely* going to be running the series and study group in my own parish, as well.
