Rediscover Catholicism

by Matthew Kelly

This week's giveaway is the bestselling Rediscover Catholicism: A Spiritual Guide to Living with Passion and Purpose. Here's the description from Amazon:

"Over the past twenty years, Matthew Kelly has seen more of the world than most presidents and more of the Church than most bishops. Now, in this unique and timely book, he proposes that Catholicism is not a lifeless set of rules and regulations , but a way of life designed by God to help each person reach his or her full potential.

With remarkable insight, Kelly dispels dozens of myths that surround the rejection of Catholicism today and provides a profound and practical vision of what will lead the Catholic Church to thrive again in the future. Rediscover Catholicism is quickly becoming the most read catholic book of our times. From the spellbinding opening story, Kelly grips his readers and takes them on a life-changing journey to rediscover the genius of Catholicism."

Matthew Kelly runs the fantastic Dynamic Catholic Parish Book program, which sells books like Rediscover Catholicism to parishes at huge discounts. Depending how many you buy you can get the books for as little as $2 per copy, including shipping. Our parish is planning to pass out thousands of copies of Rediscover Catholicism.as time this year. If you think your parish might be interested, pass the link on to your pastor.

The winner will be randomly selected next Friday and the giveaway item will be sent out, free-of-charge, shortly thereafter.

Sex. It seems that almost every non-Catholic (and many cradle Catholics) do not understand the Catholic teaching on sex.

The corollary to sex would be contraception. What the Church ACTUALLY says, where She ACTUALLY stands, etc.

Oh, BTW. I am not entering the giveaway since I already own this book.

theological issues, and the Saints. I get a lot of people who are not Catholic who think that we worship saints which is not true.

I think its a toss up between our view on contraception and our relationship with Mary. I think more people educated themselves with the issues and points behind it there would be a better understanding. This is more the case with contraception, people often choose not hear the arguments because they don't want to have to follow it; they want to do what they want.

It depends on which group of people are doing the "misunderstanding." For those who follow the media, I would say Catholic moral theology is entirely misrepresented and, thus misunderstood by the majority of the American population. For non-Catholic Christians, our concept of continuity and why the authority of that continuity matters. For Catholics - from nominal Catholic all the way to Catholic traditionalists - I have encountered the most misunderstanding when it comes to obedience to rightful authority. Sometimes Catholics get caught up in the spirit of Protestantism without even knowing it by refusing to accept legitimate authority in both large and small matters. I have seen the devil slip into and nearly ruin excellent, Catholic communities though a failure to be obedient in small, seemingly mundane matters.

I believe it is contraception (or "birth control" ) as some would prefer to call it. Although 80 years ago, the issue was much better understood. Now, we are more ignorant as a people, despite our technical prowess.

Church authority concerning both scripture + doctrine. (already own the book, just wanted to comment). I feel like there are a lot of topics that Catholics + non-Catholics alike think that the Church will eventually change its mind...

  • grandmama16

The authority of the Pope particularly his gift of Infallibility. I've heard so many comments by non Catholics that he's supposed to be infallible on everything. As we know, that's not true. This gift applies only on Official Declarations concerning faith and morals.
