Social Media Break

Total Consecration

Back in February I did a week-long Internet fast, and I’m due for another. So from tomorrow (August 4) to next Sunday (August 12), I’ll be stepping away from the whirling world of blogs and social media.

Disconnecting will also help me focus on several exciting things happening this week:

– The baptism of our godchild, Luke, who also doubles as Brent Stubbs’ son. You probably know Brent through his excellent blog, AlmostNotCatholic.com, and his writings at IgnitumToday.com.

– My wife and I are beginning the Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary on Monday. Everyone I know who has completed this 33-three day journey has been profoundly impacted. In his apostolic letter, “Rosarium Virginis Mariae,” Pope John Paul II noted that his personal motto “Totus Tuus” (Totally Yours) was inspired by the Total Consecration and he was a huge proponent of it throughout his pontificate. Learn more at MyConsecration.org where you can also order free books and materials to do the consecration yourself.

– I’ll be spending a relaxing, book-filled weekend with two great friends: my 89-year-old spiritual director Msgr. Ed Thompson, and his twin brother, Bishop David Thompson. Together we share three great loves: God, books, and theology. I’m sure it will be a weekend full of rich discussion.

So, I’ll see you in a week!

(Whether you’ve ever considered a digital fast yourself, I have two words for you: do it! It will realign your priorities and refresh your soul.
