Over the past month or so, I’ve traveled to three different Catholic parishes around Central Florida to give a talk on Jesus’ “Good Samaritan” parable (Luke 10:25-37). As a part of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ “Journey to Justice” experience, I gave some short commentary on this parable, one of Jesus’ most well-known. The hope was that listeners would break through the familiarity of the story in order to embrace the call to compassion and justice latent within Jesus’ words.
