According to the reliable Rocco Palmo, the man who confirmed me into the Catholic Church back in 2008–Bishop John Ricard of Tallahassee/Pensacola, FL–has submitted his resignation to Pope Benedict XVI. Bishop Ricard is stepping down due to a serious stroke he suffered one year ago.
Ironically, the bishop who just left my current diocese, Archbishop Thomas Wenski, has purportedly been placed in charge of Ricard’s former flock. The Pope moved Wenski from Orlando to Miami a few months ago, so in addition to shepherding South Florida Catholics, he will oversee the Panhandle diocese until Ricard’s replacement is determined.
