To celebrate the recent news that G.K. Chesterton may soon be known as St. Gilbert, here’s some rare footage of the Apostle of Common Sense being made an honorary Holy Cross Crusader by Worcester College on May 1st, 1931.
The article above also reveals that Pope Francis is himself a Chesterton fan. While archbishop of Buenos Aires, then-Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio expressed support for Chesterton’s sainthood cause. He was an honorary member of the Argentine Chesterton Society, celebrated a Mass for their annual Chesterton conference, and approved the text of a private prayer for Chesterton’s canonization.
