The Crazy Questions My Kids Asked Bishop Barron

Many of you know that my family is currently on a cross-country road trip (32 days, 7,000+ miles, five young kids, lots of fun!) A few weeks ago we left Orlando, FL and drove all the way to Santa Barbara, CA, stopping at several places along the way. (Look for a photo recap soon!)

While in California, we spent a few days hanging out with Bishop Barron, and the highlight for the kids was getting to “interview” him in our Word on Fire recording studio for a special episode of β€œThe Word on Fire Show.” They prepared questions for him in advance, and some were really good (“How do we know God is real?”) Others were, well, a bit silly. But they had a blast being “on the radio” and are still excitedly talking about it.

Click the PLAY button below to listen to their whole interview. And again, be on the lookout for some road trip pictures soon!

An interesting answer to Mary being Queen follows the traditions of the Davidic Kingdom (of which Jesus is King of) where it is the mother of the king who becomes queen. Bathsheba became queen, for example, because her son Solomon is king.

Just wonderful! Wonderful children with wonderful parents. Thank you Bishop Barron.

  • LOVED the “poo poo” part of this interview. Hearing both your kids and Bishop Barron laughing their heads off was a joyful blessing in my day. Thanks for the interview!

That was awesome! I loved the kids questions, especially the banana one. Ha Ha. What a great forum and great kids!

Are you tempted to become a Santa Barbarian? I’m third generation and my kids are fourth generation Santa Barbarians. :):) πŸ™‚
When people move here, and I introduce myself as a long time Santa Barbarian, they either laugh a little or look at me like they’re not sure I realize what I said.

Three of my kids do RE events next to the Word on Fire office. I just happened to notice a few weeks ago at a first communion retreat. The grounds there are so beautiful. I wish they’d make a Catholic College, at the old seminary…(is that too much to ask?)

  • “Yeah yeah, participatory ontology, but how are they our king and queen without being married, Mr. Bishop?”

  • Richard Houwing

Thanks a million. So joyous to bear the beautiful children & Bishop Barron having fun & talking about important stuff. I wil post this on our parish web site. God bless & save travels.

Thank you for sharing this. I love it when children ask questions and I love when our priests talk to the children right during Mass. We are all children of God. Those were GREAT questions, by the way πŸ™‚

Thank you for sharing such wonderful innocence. It is great to know that there are families that can still have wonderful relationships with the ordained.

That was too cute. Your children grasp so much at such young ages, it’s amazing.
If you ever figure out an answer to “How do you turn into a banana,” make sure you post it here. πŸ˜‰
    God bless you all!

Brandon, this is great! Involving and helping the little children in solving their curiosity. Their faith will grow more and more, they will be the children of light in future generations. It’s a marvelous things you are doing. God bless you and whole family. May God Bless all who is doing God’s will.

What a great gift all around, your kids, watching Bishop Barron in a less formal environment, and thnking of the effort you and your wife made taking the kids from Florida to California! We took our kids at 9 and 10 with one dog and one cat when we moved from TX to WA. So, I have a slight hint at the dynamics inside the van or car. Brandon, you are a blessing, a huge effort in bringing others to Christ and in this case through your fatherhood.
