The Feast of St. Lewis

The Catholic Church–specifically the Roman Rite–has a calendar that many Catholics follow which designates certain days as Feast Days. These Feast Days are typically celebrated in honor of a particular martyr or Saint from Church History. The Early Christians began this practice to commemorate the deaths of martyrs, but since the deaths are really New Births into Heaven, the Feast Days are really birthday celebrations more than anything else!

In case you missed it, today is the 46th anniversary of C.S. Lewis‘ death, and therefore the anniversary of his New Birth. This Feast Day is the first, and only (so far!) on the Brandon Rite calendar. May the man who baptized my imagination pray for us all to imagine and dream the new Kingdom of joy into reality. I believe this man was a Saint in thought and in writing, though it is unlikely he will ever be officially recognized as one. But a Saint in our hearts is one who is still able to pray for us. May he watch over us all.
