Persuasive Pro-Life: How to Talk About Our Culture’s Toughest Issue

Trent Horn
Catholic Answers Press, 334 pages, paperback
Persuasive Pro-Life copyAre you scared to talk about abortion? Don’t worry—almost everyone is. Either we think the subject is too impolite, or we don’t want to be branded an intolerant fanatic, or we’re afraid we won’t represent the pro-life side well enough. Whatever the reason for this fear, it causes many of us pass up opportunities to speak out on behalf of the unborn.

You can overcome this fear, says Trent Horn in his new book Persuasive Pro-Life. With a little knowledge and a few proven techniques, you can become a bold and effective apologist for life.

Drawing on over a decade as a pro-life organizer, Horn helps you cut through the diversions and obfuscations of the “pro-choice” side in order to accurately frame the legal, historical, and medical issue surrounding abortion. Then he demonstrates—with vivid personal examples from his years of campus activism—the importance of being charitable in all abortion debates, no matter how strident the other side might be. We must be not just warriors for the pro-life cause, he says, but ambassadors for it.

Then Horn leads you a guided tour of the many types of pro-abortion opponent or inquirer (“the pragmatist,” “the skeptic,” “the conflicted”) along with more real-life examples. In each case he teaches you specific approaches—what to say, what not to say, and how to bear yourself—that are custom-tailored to every situation.

The struggle over abortion has never been hotter, and the stakes could not be higher.

Read Persuasive Pro-Life today and never again be afraid to speak up for the precious and fundamental right to life.

  • 40 Days for Life LC

I am discerning full-time pro-life ministry and this book would be helpful.

  • Connie Naylor

I always used to be on the other side of the discussion, not that I believed in abortion. I just believed no one had the right to tell me what I could and could not do with my life or body. But I am changing my view point and would like something to help direct me.

  • Linda Denner

    I hope I win.

  • Lorie C Weeden

I would be very interested if I can have the book, for I’m a great defender of human life. Thanks be to God.

  • Kevin Noles

This book should be mandatory reading for any catholic.

  • Scott Peterson

Looks like a detailed discussion of the issues. I would be particularly interested in learning how to better approach these issues with charity. That can be difficult, when things have become so polarized.

  • Mary

I’ve heard it advertised on the radio, but didn’t know the background story of how it was compiled until I read this email. Sounds interesting.

  • John W Guise

    I’m initerested in learning more.

  • maria

I often have trouble with my family members. I would like to know ways to talk to my family and friends with love about this issue.

  • Connie

I am surrounded by mostly pro-choice people and would like to know effective ways to engage them in conversation. I also want to teach my kids how to defend life.

  • Jessica Carney

I tend to avoid these conversations because I get upset and emotional–it’d be great to have better ideas of how to approach the topic persuasively!

  • Jean Pergande

This would be great to share with my Respect Life team.

  • Aurelio E. Elizarraras

Such a huge fan of Trent Horn and Catholic Answers. Look froward to reading this book.

    • Aurelio E. Elizarraras

  • James

This would be beneficial to share with the youth in my high school, so that they can feel like they can defend their choice to be Pro-Life, especially when so many others are Pro-Choice.

  • As someone that was abandoned rather than aborted in a dangerous time (72) i have come to know how close being a statistic was. Being a survivor makes being pro life easy, but not always the conversation.

  • kattisch

I am very active in 40 days for life and would very much love to be able to formulate loving defenses of life.

  • Ashish Jacob

Awesome… Looking forward to reading this…

  • jim

    sounds like a great book.

  • Maja

I so wanted to read this book. I just learned that some of my relatives and friends are taking contraceptives so as not to have children because they’re still not ready. And we all know that contraceptives are abortifacients. This made me really really sad. I want to help them. I want to defend life. This book would be of great help.

  • Salvador Baca

This would be a great book to help start the discussion and defend the prolife movement. Case for life was awesome, be great to have something on paper as well.

  • Jeffrey Q.

  • Gentillylace

I am often tongue-tied when it comes to defending my pro-life beliefs. It would be nice to have a resource that could make secular people who are in favor of allowing pregnant women and girls to choose an abortion rethink their beliefs.

  • Paul

Most of the time we don’t speak up because we don’t know what to say or how to effectively say it, or back up our argument/discussion with sound information. It’s only later on we think of something and it’s too late. The other side is well trained in their arguement, and most catholics aren’t…and they know that! Reading books like this should give us the confidence to back up our beliefs. And, hopefully it sinks in.

  • Jeff Warchal

It is frustrating to successfully argue for life, especially in a quick and efficient manner. I’m hoping that this book will help immensely.

  • Richard

As a philosophy student, I’d love to deepen my understanding of pro-life issues with this book!

  • Bascon

I would love to learn more to defend the unborn whenever the issue comes up and be ready with an answer

  • Kate Hunter

After a long loneliness of walking away from the Church at 15, eight years of hormonal birth control, condoms, two abortions, depo provera, and an IUD, I finally said ENOUGH and walked away from Planned Parenthood to detox. During that year I walked to and from the Catholic Church struggling with the idea of grace. I am now the single mother of a beautiful boy and am working as a street counselor for 40 Days for Life. I also take Creighton Method classes and plan to teach in the future.

  • Lindsey

Looks like an interesting book. Would love to read.

  • Bradford Jouty

I want to read this book so badly!

  • Jean Pergande

Since I am involved in 40Days for Life with our Respect Life team and also Gabriel Project (helping women who are pregnant and need help) and praying in front of an abortion clinic in my area, this would be an added resource book that I might be able to share with my team.

  • Reuben Andrew Herrle
