Where do you write? – A Photo Tour

I’m a day late to the photo party at Conversion Diary, where Jen is asking a great question: where do you write? I was fascinated looking through the photos from other bloggers and writers. Some people are neat and clean and organized, and others revel in chaos.

Here’s a quick peek at my desk in its natural habitat, circa March 2012:

Books, books, and more books. Since good writing is clear thinking, and good reading fuels both, books are the lifeblood of my work. So that explains why my writing area seems more like a mini-library The Erasmus quote on the wall sums its up: “When I have a little money, I buy books. If I have any left I buy food and clothes.”

On the left edge you’ll see my stack of unread magazines–mostly Homiletic and Pastoral Review and First Things, my two favorites–and next to that a stack of Church and New Media books.

On the top shelf sits all my books relating to writing, including dictionaries and a thesaurus.

Most of my inspiration, though, comes from what hovers above. There you’ll see an epic Aragorn poster. He’s holding a sword. And leading an army. To Mordor. To vanquish death and darkness. How can that not inspire?

Above and to the left are some to-read books: a few on New Atheism, a couple on parenting, and a copy of The Hunger Games, which everyone says is a must-read. Have you read it?

Here’s where I keep my just-finished books (shelved left), my to-review books (stacked), and my currently-reading books (shelved right, including Lewis’ Miracles, Augustine’s Confessions, and my Kindle.)

My view from mission central. I love having books around the periphery. “Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses…”

What does your writing area look like?

Snap some photos and share them over at ConversionDiary and check out the gallery while you’re there.
