Why Videos Go Viral

We know that in the digital age, video is crucial. And we know it’s not that hard to make quality YouTube videos.

But how can you make a video that isn’t just good–how do you make one that goes viral? Here’s a great TED talk from someone who should know. Kevin Allocca is the Trend Manager for YouTube, which means it’s his job to study how and why certain videos spread online. In his experience, it comes down to three things:

1. Tastemakers
2. Creative, participating communities
3. Complete unexpectedness
